About

Duane Niu
Duane grew up in China and has practiced 欧体 (Ouyang Xun style) calligraphy since childhood. He taught ESL in China for about 9 years, holds an M.Ed from the University of Ottawa, and lives in Ottawa.
He started Chinese Tattoo Expert because too many tattoos end up wrong, meaningless, or unintentionally funny. One check by a calligrapher could easily have avoided many of those. Literal translations such as 力量 for strength or 和平 for peace are what instant generators commonly produce. A human check matters for something permanent.
He knows Chinese culture and literature, so he can advise which characters or phrases best fit what you want to express. When he reviews a request, he reads your story. He may suggest a better word or a classic phrase, and he writes a short note on why.
You send a request for free. AI helps draft candidate characters and notes. Duane reviews them, then picks or corrects, and emails you the options. You pay only after you approve, by a secure link in that email. He then emails the result with a stencil image. He does not tattoo you. Duane normally replies within 48 hours of receiving your form. If you need it sooner, say so in the Anything else box.
From Duane's brush
Practice pieces in 欧体 (Ouyang Xun) regular script, written by Duane.

Chinese lettering uses 汇文正楷 by TerryWang (free for commercial use) and LXGW WenKai (SIL OFL). Both are regular script (楷书), in the same brush-style family as the 欧体 Duane has practiced since childhood. Neither font is 欧体. The practice pieces above are his own brush writing. Want it closer to classic 欧体 calligraphy? Choose Hand-brushed by Duane. The font files are not for sale and are not offered for download.
